The Embassy of the Republic of Guyana in Beijing, China recently welcomed 36 students from across China for a study tour.

The students, ranging in age from 8 to 12 years, are all members of the China Young Cultural Ambassadors (CYCA) Association in Beijing for the finals of a Model United Nations competition in which they were tasked with learning about the culture and customs of a specific country. The group chose Guyana, which they represented in the finals of the competition.

The participants were treated to a presentation on Guyana’s people, traditions, festivals and cuisine, while the main feature of the tour centered on Guyana’s cocoa culture and an introduction to chocolate-making which was facilitated by Mrs Connie Hon, the owner of an organic chocolate business in China.

This is the third year that the Embassy of Guyana, in collaboration with the CYCA, organized such an interactive youth focused programme as a means to foster cultural cooperation and the promotion of learning. The CYCA itself organizes study and performance tours around the world for Chinese children and supports their exposure to and engagement in all forms of cultural activities.
