The Honourable Carl Greenidge, Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, today opened the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization’s (ACTO) Regional Technical Experts Meeting at the Princess Ramada Hotel in Georgetown.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister encouraged Member States of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization to focus on the policies and institutions regarding the protection of Traditional Knowledge and Access and Benefit Sharing. He said this would ensure the sustainability of the Amazon region and the protection of its culturally rich people. According to Minister Greenidge, “the Amazon gives to us and we must also give back to it.”
ACTO Member States include Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
