Ambassador Dag Nylander, the Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary General paid a visit to Guyana from April 12-13, 2017. During this visit he paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President David Granger and met with the Honourable Carl Greenidge, Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Nylander was accompanied by a three-member delegation of UN Officials from the Departments of Political and Legal Affairs.
The United Nations Secretary General will perform the role of Good Officer in the controversy between the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, until the end of 2017. His role is to assist both States in the search for a solution to the controversy that arose from the Venezuelan contention that the Arbitral Award of 1899, that established the land boundary between the two States, is null and void. He will be assisted in that effort by Ambassador Dag Nylander.
