Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on the damage caused throughout the Caribbean by Hurricane Irma

08 Sep

It was with deep sadness and concern that the Government and people of Guyana received the news of the destruction caused by the passage of Hurricane Irma to Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, St Kitts and Nevis, St Barts, Saint Martin and the British Virgin Islands.

The Government and people of Guyana extend our sympathy to the families and Governments of those who have lost their lives, those who have been injured and those affected by the disruptions and damage to infrastructure and property caused by the storm.

We also remain concerned for the welfare of the peoples of those countries and territories in the path of the hurricane and hope that they would be spared the damage and loss of life suffered by the other sister Caribbean states.

The Government of Guyana stands in solidarity with them and remains ready to offer whatever support, financial or other, it can in this hour of need.
