The objective of the Frontiers Department is:

 
To assist the Government of Guyana in the management of its relations with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Republic of Suriname in the context of the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Guyana and to provide advice to it on the rights and obligations of Guyana in the context of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
