In addressing the theme, “Underneath the Green Transition: The Oil Industry”, the Head of State highlighted that Guyana is one of the foremost countries in forest management, preservation, and the deployment of the forest to the world in terms of climate change.

The President spoke about Guyana’s oil and gas industry and how its forests and its comprehensive LCDS efficiently and effectively balance exploiting oil resources, leading the climate change battle and maintaining net zero carbon emissions.

He noted that “The LCDS is a holistic approach to finding that balance, in terms of managing the environment, ensuring the livelihood of the people, promoting economic wealth…bridging inequities, and ensuring the aspirations of Guyana and the people of the world are met in a balanced approach.”

President Ali also emphasised that Guyana has illustrated that the model can work. He also spoke about his vision of Guyana 2030 and beyond and said that he wants to leave a sustainable, resilient, highly competitive and functional country that leads on global issues such as climate, energy and food security.

Former Colombia President, HE Iván Duque Márquez, was also part of the discussion at the Concordia Annual Summit.
