FOREIGN MINISTER DURING KEYNOTE ADDRESS HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF THE YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL AND THE REVITALIZATION OF THE LCDS

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd today gave the keynote address during the virtual event hosted by Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), under the theme “Covid-19, Land and the Future of the Caribbean.”

Minister Todd spoke of the consequences of land degradation,  compromising ecosystems and threatening biodiversity, food and water supply, which he added is increasingly exacerbated by the COVID-19.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd, today joined Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in an inaugural meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the Honourable Marc Garneau, during which among areas of interest, they discussed a coordinated response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, and climate resilience.

You are aware that on January 7, 2021 the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela announced during a meeting of the National Defence Council that he had established “a new maritime territory” of Venezuela. This territory is called “Territory for the development of the Atlantic Façade “in order to provide adequate protection and safeguard the jurisdiction of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”.
